nurse rant.

do you know what i hate?!

the flu and freaking rsv.  it has taken over the hospital and i am exhausted.  it's not like i'm working much more than i normally do but the patients are soooo sick that by the time i finish a 12+ hour shift i want to pass out dead.

so many boogers and wheezes and fevers and suctioning and nebulizers.  blah.  this is my third winter as a nurse and the first that has had a really bad respiratory season, so i can't complain too much...but let's just say that this is making the nasty, freezing, post-christmas winter 100x worse.  the only thing keeping me going is valentine's day and the st. george vaca we have planned over president's day.

despite all the sickness at work i've had some really happy moments as well.  one of my patients that i took care of on halloween {when i was dressed as a bunny} and multiple times afterward was admitted for rsv and wanted to see her "bunny friend".  her mom came and found me and it made me so happy.  i spent a few minutes with her after one of my shifts playing connect 4 and drinking slushies with her.  moments like that make me so happy i became a nurse.

but i'll say it one more time - the flu is the absolute worst.  get a flu shot!  k bye.

AMEN to this post!! Granted I am not the nurse in this position but boy do I feel your pain! I don't every remember a January being this dreary...cold...and miserable. Usually I can find things to past the cold months away, but being banned indoors because of an RSV baby has made nothing about January fun. I wish you were our nurse at Primary's. Our night nurse was great, but our day nurse definitely needed some time off...or something!

Ugh. It is the yuckiest winter ever. We had a huge Norovirus outbreak last month that affected pretty much everyone in the facility. For weeks. And then Abby's school also had a Norovirus outbreak, so that pretty much just guaranteed that my entire family got it. So miserable! I can't wait until it's warm and we can all stop infecting each other! But yes, those sweet nurse moments do make up for all the vomit/secretions/uncontrollable diarrhea we take care of!

loved this!!! i got the flu shot the second it was available. it was especially important to me this year since i had my son at the start of flu season and he is too little to get his own but gets some of the antibodies through breast milk. yay for modern medicine!!!

Dang that's got to suck! I can at least say I'm not one of those, mostly because I don't have insurance and can't afford the hospital:) but I saw you're already getting ready for Vday, very impressed!!!

I am so sorry, that sounds miserable.

But I have to admit, your stories made me think of one of my favorite Parks & Recs episodes where everyone's in the hospital with the flu. I think you've mentioned watching that show, so you probably know the one I'm speaking of.

I hope people get healthier so work can be better ASAP!
